uae 5oth anniversary mural

hatta, United Arab Emirates

For the UAE 50th Anniversary, SAN Projects was assigned to restore one of the world's largest murals, portraying UAE founding fathers Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum.

The mural was painted by Case Ma'claim in 2017, on the UAE's southeast Hatta mountain range, on the borders of Oman. As part of a $354m (AED1.3bn) development plan of the Hatta Region to develop its cultural and heritage sites and promote the area as one of the emirate's key tourist attractions and business hubs, according to the Dubai Executive Council.

The 80x30 m artwork, commissioned by the Government of Dubai and created in collaboration with Brand Dubai, was restored in November 2021 by Lonac, a Croatian urban artist that earned recognition for his masterful spray paint technique and photo realistic murals.
