DEWA Electrical Boxes Public Art Program

City Of Dubai, United Arab Emirates

SAN Projects produced a large-scale public art initiative in Dubai, transforming approximately 70 DEWA electrical boxes into contemporary artworks integrated throughout the city.

Developed in participation with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the project sought to activate everyday urban infrastructure through art, bringing contemporary visual culture into direct contact with public space and daily life.

The Emirati artist Hind Khalid Hasan was commissioned to create a unified artistic language specifically designed for outdoor, citywide application. Her abstract compositions respond to scale, environment, and repetition, allowing each electrical box to function as an individual artwork while forming part of a cohesive, distributed installation across multiple districts of Dubai.

SAN Projects managed the project end-to-end, including artist commissioning, creative direction, production logistics, surface preparation, painting execution, and coordination with municipal and utility authorities. All works were executed on-site, ensuring durability and long-term integration within the urban landscape.

This project exemplifies SAN Projects’ approach to public art production in Dubai, bridging contemporary art, infrastructure, and city planning to create accessible cultural experiences beyond traditional exhibition spaces.
