1010

Poland

Born in 1979, 1010 is a Hamburg-based contemporary artist known for his enigmatic, portal-like street art illusions on walls around the world. Originally from Poland, 1010 moved with his parents to Germany, when he was eight years old. For more than a decade, the artist has been painting walls and making papercuts. Previously he has created contemporary abstract birds and snakes, with some taking on tie-dye and painterly textures with an almost computer generated smoothness. For the past few years 1010 has been mostly focused on an abstract concept of making “holes on the walls”.

1010, pronounced “ten-ten”, is widely recognized for his amazing works that trick the mind to appear like holes and three dimensional shapes on walls. Every piece from his series of op-art murals seem like colorful portals inhabiting the urban landscape. The obvious layers of concrete lead to darkness and they are so realistically done that it is hard to believe they do not have the depth.

The process of making this kind of artwork is very specific. Firstly, 1010 picks a pattern which reflects the building it is painted on, so the mural would fit perfectly on the wall, looking as if it has been created naturally over time. 1010 works out from the dark centre of his image, layer by layer, to reach the lightest shades of colour on the periphery of his piece creating breathtaking shapes that burrow their way into the sides of buildings creating mural which joyfully plays with time and space.

2501

Italy

Born in 1981 Never2501, or just 2501, is an Italian artist whose works are visually stunning, diving head first into the essence of line art through his use of monochromatic color schemes that emphasize his technique. Street pieces are elegant and clean making it pop from the usually busy public settings he implements them. The visual impact of his style and the intriguing ambiguity which comes from his use of figureless forms makes 2501’s art one of the most exciting and recognizable in today’s contemporary art scene.

The artist started doing graffiti back to 1995, and when he was around 14 years old he started learning how to use spray cans. His friend taught him how to sneak and paint trains. When he finished high school he moved to Brasil, where he met a lot of other artists, what encourage him to change his style completely. He went from letter-graffiti to something else. He started experimenting with mural paintings, canvases, sculpture, installations. According to 2501, painting walls and painting outside taught him a lot, being free and what he wants to say. That’s why his work inside of galleries is different than what he is doing outside.

If there were ever an artist who truly captured the fundamentals of art, it would have to be Never 2501.

In all his creations, whether it be canvas, paper, or walls, there is an obvious progression in size, detail and complexity that accompanies Never 2501's works. His installations, in comparison, grant his audience a more natural, organic contrast to what is customary in his other pieces.  His ability to play with different forms of media while remaining devoted to line use has allowed Never 2501 to develop into the incredible artist that he is today.

2501 lives in Milan.

alex senna

Brazil

Born in 1982 in Orlândia, Alex Senna is a Brazilian street artist who creates vivid expressions of human love, romance, and relationships through youthful black and white illustrations. Combining the languages of illustration, comics, and graffiti from the 1990’s, this artist builds a playful, almost poetic narrative, giving his works strong popular appeal. His murals, observing human relations loaded with emotional baggage and intertwined with satire, have in recent years been lending a cartoony look to the streets of São Paulo (and many others). Using symbols taken from the imagination of children – hearts, musical notes, balloons, birds – Alex adds „color“ to his art which is markedly colorless. Colorblind, Senna continuously used one color in his drawings and sketchbooks, which later reached the city walls, marking the urban setting with a simple and clear emotional visual flavor.

By transposing his sketches to city walls around the globe he ignites urban settings with feelings of love and happiness by exposing his viewers to the intimate lives of his characters. The art’s resonating black and white tones make his messages come across simple, clear, and straight from the heart.

ASKEW ONE

New Zealand

Askew One/Elliot O’Donnell is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist hailing from the capital of the South Pacific, Auckland, New Zealand. From his roots in his city’s graffiti scene during the early 90’s, he became one of the key figures known internationally from the region. Additionally he has been an integral part of the scene through organising Auckland’s first graffiti festival, setting up multiple gallery spaces and publishing both a magazine and book showcasing New Zealand graffiti art.

Since 2010 Askew One has evolved his art practice more into the Post-Graffiti realm, focusing on studio work and large scale outdoor murals. Askew One’s work has progressed from text and portraiture based paintings into a style he describes as 'portraiture by alternative means' that is part still life and part abstraction. He uses a combination of analogue and digital techniques to create compositions made from 3D scans of random objects and textures from the street. He views these components as a recording of human movement through urban space - like a mass portrait versus one of an individual.

BORONDO

Spain

Gonzalo Borondo was born in Spain in 1989. Driven by the will of face himself with a collective dimension, exploring the complex relationship between Art and “Public”, he started painting in the public space in 2007. His works stem from the dialogue with the context that he is facing, from the encounter with memories of places and people: context creates the work, which changes (with) the space.

Experimentation is the basis of Borondo’s artistic research, focused on extending the resources of painting to disciplines, supports (glass, straw, ceramic, wall surfaces, wood...) and multiples aesthetic practices. The heart of his poetry is searching for what is sacred and the subtle nature of human psyche. Borondo realized paintings and installations of public art all over the world, getting the award Arte Laguna within the section “Land Art and Urban Art” in 2018 thanks to the work “Cenere” (Selci IT, 2017).

He started displaying personal shows in Rome, Madrid, Paris, London and Marseilles, expositive projects of experience-based installations in 2012. His studies are now focused on the intention of livening up painting through innovative analogical processes, where the interaction of sound, light and video, synthesized on the glass, is a scene of dynamic paintings that are between visible and invisible.

CASE MC’CLAIM

Germany

A German urban artist native to Frankfurt, Andres Von Chrzanowski (a.k.a. CASE or CASE Maclaim) is a graffiti painter who relies on his highly developed talent to create pieces that combine brilliant photorealism with a strong note of surrealism.

This artist primarily uses spray paint as this street art technique enables him to get the most out of his visuals and achieve the level of perfection his incredibly life-like graffiti possess. One of Andres Von Chrzanowski’s most common pictorial motifs are the overlaying hands that symbolize unity and power. It should also be noted that CASE is a founding member of the renown East- Germany Maclaim Crew, a group that has been the urban expression’s photorealism pioneer for over two decades now.

Not only are CASE’s pieces unique in their subject matter, but they are brought to life through what can easily be called one of the most extraordinary techniques in all of the urban art. Andres Von Chrzanowski traveled to over twenty countries by now, quite literally making his mark in each of them, leaving aerosol pieces that depict a language understood by all us regardless of the geographical location

His versatile spirit has made him explore different styles and techniques. The hunger for new paths discovery, spontaneous brush stroke and the intensity in the colour perception are reflected in all his works.

The impressionist light and the poetical beat of the expressive stain define Blanxer’s creative rut. Most of his works reproduce human actions, from ordinary to more surrealistic situations. Nevertheless, he seems to be as impartial as possible leaving the emotions arise freely. Therefore, in the middle of his learning process, Blanxer shows us a constantly evolving work.

DALeast

China

Chinese-born DALeast is easily one of the most prolific street artists of our time, as well as an accomplished painter, sculptor, and digital artist.

The dark imagery found in DALeast's art is undeniably captivating, woven with intricate detail while focusing on the simple subjects in his pieces. Each of his pieces of art is created using paint to look like thousands of metal shards are coming together to form beautiful shapes, often animals or humans. Within every piece of DALeast’s art, a pop of color observed in the background brings his subject to life. This allows him to focus on the intricacy of his technique while delivering his final product. The use of fractured imagery and contrasting backgrounds serve to give his art a breath of energy and soul that can sometimes be lost in art with a more somber subject matter.

A majority of DALeast’s art utilizes animals as the subject matter. In many of his works, less pronounced line work in the background serves as a shadowing effect for the images illustrated in the forefront. The overall artistic effect of utilizing a dark base while simultaneously highlighting in fragmented, brighter lines is to make the images appear to leap off the wall or canvas; It is the artist’s skillful layering of lines that leads the viewer to be able to visually interpret the image in many different ways.

DECERTOR

Lima, Peru

Decertor (Daniel Cortez) is from Lima, Peru. He is a painter interested in building weatherproof memories in public spaces. He began his career with no formal studies in art, and his first inspiration came from portraits of the common man and woman that make up the human scenery of the Peruvian cities.

His style started with the exercise of realism but then developed to emphasize the interconnectivity between the individual and the community in the social psyche. As an active street painter, he was part of the Hip Hop movement in Lima, always involving his work on social issues. This contributed to finding their way on muralism, risking new formats, and reinterpreting pre-Hispanic iconography in his style.

Currently, Decertor feeds on the social context and the architectural sites that he chooses to do his work, always seeking for an active confrontation of the mural with the viewers. He believes that street painting is an effective tool to bring social and global issues to the fore. He strives to perform his work by decentralizing and democratizing the walls, which transforms them and elicits their humanity. Thinking of the arts as an excuse to continue painting, his work has transcended his hometown borders and can be found in cities such as Cartagena in Colombia, Cochabamba in Bolivia, Mexico City in Mexico, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Azemmour in Morocco, among others.

D*FACE

London, United Kingdom

D*Face is one of the most prolific contemporary urban artists of his generation. Working with a variety of mediums and techniques, he uses a family of dysfunctional characters to satirise and hold to ransom all that falls into their grasp – a welcome jolt of subversion in today’s media-saturated environment.

His aim is to encourage the public not just to ‘see’, but to look at what surrounds them and their lives, reflecting our increasingly bizarre fascination for with celebrity, fame, consumerism and materialism, re-thinking, reworking and subverting imagery drawn from a refuge of decades of materialistic consumption, imagery appropriated from currency, advertising, comic books, these now iconic motifs, cultural figures and genres are subverted to comment upon our conspicuous society.

EDOARDO TRESOLDI

Milan, Italy

Edoardo Tresoldi plays with the transparency of mesh and with industrial materials to transcend the time-space dimension and narrate a dialogue between Art and World, a visual summary which reveals itself in the fade-out of physical limitations.
Mixing classical and modern language, he generates a third one, strongly contemporary.

Born in 1987, he grew up in Milan where, at the age of 9, experimented different languages and techniques under the guidance of painter Mario Straforini. In 2009 he moved to Rome and started to work in various creative areas. Cinema, music, scenography and sculpture gave him a heterogeneous vision of arts and became a platform for experimentation.

In 2017 he has been included by Forbes among the 30 most influential European artists under 30. In April 2018 he realizes “Etherea” for Coachella Musics and Arts Festival, one of the world’s most anticipated and important music events. It is his biggest artwork to date and also the the largest of the California festival.

ernest zacharevic

Lithuania

Ernest Zacharevic, better known as ZACH, is a Lithuanian artist whose iconic, lighthearted pieces have become enormously popular across the world. By fusing the physical world with his imagination, this artist makes street art that is realistic but creative.

Zacharevic was born in Vilnus in 1986, Lithuania where he started out young, scribbling with crayons on his dad’s newspaper. At some point, his parents decided to take him to an art school, so his professional art education started when he was eleven. After he graduated, he went to Art Academy to study Graphic arts. ZACHAS found that experience not very inspiring and as too much of a replication of his art during school time. That is why he decided to move to London:

“It was a very conservative boarding art school with Greek heads and not much creativity. Afterwards I went to study in London were I graduated with Fine Art BA. It was the opposite – a lot of conceptualism, not much structure.”

But, throughout all that time, graffiti was always there, like a parallel world which, according to Ernest, was the constitution of freedom. After an education of classical arts, Ernest began to develop his works in direct contact with the public space where he intervenes the architectural landscape in a fusion between paintings and recycled objects. On his travels through places like Rome, Brussels, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (among many) he has not seized to create admiration from the public through his outstanding murals.

He first attracted the attention of the international art scene with the creation of large mural interventions scattered across the old town of Penang. His illustrative style and the use of stencils earned him a nickname The Malay Banksy, as he is referred to by some.
